Cave Bears

Ursus spelaeus (also known as the Cave Bear) is an extinct species of bear that lived during the Last Glacial Maximum, 24,000 to 27,000 years ago. Most fossils of this species were found in caves, suggesting that they spent more of their time in caves than modern bears. Males weighed 400 to 500 kilograms whereas females were half that size, weighing around 225 to 250 kilograms. Their diet consisted mostly of plants though recent studies have found that they occasionally consumed meat.
