  • $ 1,975.00

For sale is a majestic Carcharodontosaurus saharicus tooth from the Sahara Desert, Morocco. This is the best dinosaur tooth we have in our collection. The serrations are phenomenal and the enamel is in near pristine condition; the preservation quality of this specimen is simply stunning. Unlike most Moroccan dinosaur teeth, this tooth has had no restoration and no glued parts. Nearly all fossilized teeth from this region are broken in multiple pieces during excavation; it is rare to find a tooth with glued cracks. There is a little bit of wear on the very tip and the root is missing, other than that; this is a perfect tooth. The red hues of this tooth are spectacular and the lateral serrations are nearly all intact. This is an amazing specimen and it will be a while before another is found. The display box is included.

Carcharodontosaurus is a genus of Carcharodontosaurid theropod dinosaurs that lived during the early Albian to early Turonian stages of the mid-Cretaceous Period (112 to 93.5 million years ago). There are currently two known species, C. saharicus and C. iguidensis. Carcharodontosaurus were among the largest of theropods; nearly or even larger than Tyrannosaurus and Giganotosaurus. Scientists estimate that the length of the species C. saharicus ranged between 12 and 13.3 m (39 and 44 ft.) and weighed between 6.2 and 15.1 metric tons. With enormous jaws, their serrated teeth were up to 8 inches long. Based on a study of the strength of its jaws, neck and center of mass, Carcharodontosaurus was able to physically lift animals weighing up to 424 kg (935 lb) in its jaws.
